Alexandria History Museum at the Lyceum
Built in 1839 in the Greek Revival style, the Lyceum originally served as a cultural and educational center. During the Civil War, it was used as a hospital for Union soldiers.
Part of the Women's History Collection:
Julia Wheelock was a nurse and educator who cared for wounded soldiers in Alexandria when the Lyceum was a hospital for Union soldiers. She later chronicled her experiences, providing valuable historical insight.
